A Sandy Highway
Oil on Canvas, 9.5″ x 12″ (24cm x 30cm)
Featured Painting
There is something quite magical about painting on the beach, especially in the colder weather. A Sandy Highway was painted en Plein Air on Ainsdale Beach, just outside Southport. It was one of those days where the weather wasn’t being particularly helpful until later in the evening when, as the sun started to drop, the sand suddenly became a highway of earthy colours and abstract forms.
I have tried to capture the warmth of the sun and sand, together with a sense of space that you can experience on a large beach of this nature, particularly at low tide. I paint here quite often and although it can look quite barren, it is one of the most challenging and interesting subjects.

EN PLEIN AIR
Painting on Location:
En Plein Air is french for the act of painting outdoors and became fashionable with the Impressionists, after Constable. It is still very much alive and thriving today and has become a very popular painting activity. Every artist chooses this practice for various reasons, for some it is about painting directly from life (working from observation) as we call it, for others it is about capturing moments in time.
My reasons are a combination of the above, I love painting directly from observation and I also want to capture particular moments in time, but I also want to capture the experience and the sensations of a place with paint. So I usually prefer painting in the winter, when it is much colder and more of a battle with the elements.
SHIPPING
This is How we Pack
Each Painting is very carefully packaged for shipping to ensure the best possible protection during transit. Each framed work is placed within a clear polythene wrap, then sealed to keep out any dust or moisture, then high density U foam protectors are placed around the frame, together with a front and back backing board. This protects against any knocks during shipping. This is then wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed within another polythene wrap for transit.
Every effort is made to ensure your painting is completely protected while it is travelling to you.
Once your payment has been processed, it takes between 5 – 7 working days for your new original plein air oil painting to be packaged and shipped.
All my Paintings are sent tracked within the UK and will be with you within 48 hours after being shipped. Worldwide orders can take up to 15 days after shipping to arrive, depending on Customs.
As a thank you for supporting my work, shipping is free within the UK.
